“Consider the day lost if you didn’t go shopping” The great supermarket or hypermarket is used in this story as a metaphor for a lifestyle, as the place where the lives and mutual relationships of the main characters intersect. There is Jan, the supermarket manager, his wife Karin – an unemployed actress who makes her living by dubbing endless soap operas, her mother Anna – who recites the advertisements on the shop’s loudspeaker, Eva the shop assistant who, on being given her notice leaves and becomes a prostitute, and Peter the former secret policeman – now member of the supermarket’s security guards, who feeds his hunger for spying on people by making his own video-recordings. And they are all rather sad clowns, who are furiously trying to fulfill their own dream of happiness.
