The main protagonist of the story is a woman who becomes the victim of petty street violence. A man steels her purse containing her ID and an amount of money which, for an ordinary school teacher about to retire, is in no way negligible. This event completely changes her and her husbands lives. The mugger continues to cause them trouble but the police are powerless to do anything about it. In spite of the fact that the muggers actions do not physically threaten his victims, they are deliberately malevolent and cause the aging couple great psychological stress. This television film analyzes one of many similar cases in the contemporary Czech Republic. It gives a very accurate account of the social situation in a post-Communist country where rights, unfortunately, can often only be asserted with great difficulty.
