Recording of the 500th concert of the International Music Festival “Smetana’s Litomyšl” (taking place in the composer’s native town), for which the violin virtuoso Pavel Šporcl “teamed up” with the Slovak Romany cimbalom band Romano Stilo. It was not only the meeting of representatives of different music types, but also the unusual repertoire and the atmosphere on the platform and in the auditorium that made the event unique. Just as Pavel Šporcl crosses with gusto the borders between the classical and other music genres, Romano Stilo can hardly be regarded as an “orthodox” cimbalom band. Melodies of Slovak, Hungarian, Romanian and mainly Romany folk songs were blended in the concert programme with original arrangements of famous pieces of classical music. Šporcl plays repertoire which may seem to be the preserve of musicians with gypsy blood in their veins with absolute confidence, his rendering is convincing, and in Romano Stilo he found excellent partners.
