The documentary film presents the life and work of Leoš Janáček in a monographic review. The script mixes the author’s essay with a dramatic web of monologues, with dialogues spoken by actors who enter the story from our contemporary days. Like their historical examples the characters do not age, and yet they carry the fateful motifs without destroying their veracity. They also enter the story as narrators, thus achieving the estrangement effects needed for the documentary genre. Moreover, the structure of the work is enhanced by personal testimonials voiced by actors and musicians on several basic questions such as love and fidelity, death, or the mission of the artist and his work.
