This chamber opera was composed by Czech composer Luboš Fišer more than thirty years ago. Its exceptional quality – typical of Fišer’s peculiar talent for catchy melodies, interesting harmonic connections, attractive instrumentation and feeling for the dramatic situation – has made the opera a frequent item on the Czech theatre repertoire. Eva Bezděková, the author of the libretto, has also had great success with the opera. As an experienced writer, she rendered exactly what the opera needed: a timeless story with powerful emotional sentiment – the conflict between the good and evil as well as great love and tragedy. The shooting style of this television opera is also interesting: the soloists sang live in the studio to recorded orchestral playback. This is how the singing as well as acting were authentically captured.
