Experience and knowledge of facts, with a touch of clairvoyance, led Croatian director Lordan Zafranovič to foresee the Yugoslav disaster long before it struck. Selecting from thousands of meters of archive material, he created a unique documentary (in two parts plus an epilogue) inquiring into the roots of the evil which unleashed the recent Balkan conflict. Was it nationalism or religious intolerance? Was it due to historical causes, to Communism or fascism, to thoughtlessness or hypocrisy? Zafranovič vividly presents the historical facts, their background and context all the while asking himself: Is it too late?
